I’ve got a special double article this week, to make up for a week or two I’ve missed. In the first article takes a look at Sutton Hoo the greatest archaeological find from the early Anglo-Saxon period. The value of this find cannot be under estimated as much of the knowledge we have about the people of this area comes from the items and information gleaned from these burial mounds. These items are now on display at the British Museum in London. If you ever have a chance to get to the British Museum the Sutton Hoo exhibit is a must for anyone who has even a passing interest in the Dark Age period of British History.
The second article follows along from this and is an introduction to the weapons and armour used by Anglo-Saxon Warriors. In many places, much emphasis has been placed on the events around Hastings to construct a picture of the equipment used by these warriors. Hopefully this will serve as a nice introduction to the topic.
